Transformers in Cusco?

Yes, the city of Cusco and the famous archaeological site of Machu Picchu became breathtaking settings for the latest installment of the Transformers saga, titled “The Rise of the Beasts.” This exciting filming generated great anticipation among fans of this successful Hollywood franchise, as it was the first time the imposing mountains of the Peruvian Andes became part of the story of the Autobots and the Decepticons.

Within the imperial city of Cusco, the Plaza de Armas (main square of Cusco), some streets of the city and the Muyucmarca (one of the three towers located at the top of Sacsayhuaman) were used. Of course, Machu Picchu, considered one of the 7 wonders of the world, could not be missed. In addition to Machu Picchu, the movie also utilized other emblematic locations in the region, such as Malaga mountain pass, and the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

The filming at Machu Picchu took place from September 7th to 10th. The production company requested authorization to allow part of the team to stay by helicopter during that period. The breathtaking landscapes of Cusco and the historical marvel of Machu Picchu provided a captivating backdrop for the epic battles between the heroic Autobots and the treacherous Decepticons. Transformers in the Peruvian jungle?

The exciting “Transformers” saga chose the lush Peruvian jungle of Tarapoto as the setting for its filming. Under the regional directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) of San Martin, the necessary permits were granted to occupy different areas near rivers and streams, as well as in the majestic Cordillera Escalera and other places considered tourist attractions. During filming, emblematic places such as Alto Shilcayo, Chazuta and Shapaja districts, the impressive La Unión waterfalls in La Banda de Shilcayo, as well as a stretch at kilometer 12 of the road to Yurimaguas and the amazing Ahuashiyacu waterfalls were closed to the public. Undoubtedly, the magical and exotic Peruvian jungle provided the perfect setting to bring the fascinating story of “Transformers” to life.

Cusco city streets

Several streets of the city of Cusco were chosen as locations for the Transformers movie. Some of them were Hospital Street, San Pedro Market, or streets of the Santa Ana neighborhood. Narrow cobblestone streets served as the backdrop for thrilling chases and spectacular confrontations between the Transformers, all streets in the historic center of the city.

Sacsayhuaman
